If the thought of getting your first wax is sending chills down your spine, it’s okay! Waxing can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. Preparing yourself and your skin makes a world of difference.
First, before you make your appointment, make sure your hair will have been grown out for at least two weeks – or at least the hair should be the length of a grain of rice. Hair grows in different cycles, so it takes a few sessions for all the hair to be waxed, and for the hair to grow back in cohesively.
If you have 4+ weeks of hair don’t worry! We ask that you don’t trim beforehand – uneven hair can cause unnecessary discomfort when pulling the strips. If we feel some hair needs trimmed, we will handle it!
Exfoliating should be done about 3 times a week – but not on the day of a wax! Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells so hair can properly grow through the skin. An exfoliating glove, natural loofah, or pumice-based scrubs are great to start with.
Staying hydrated and moisturized is extremely important. Going down a water slide with no water wouldn’t be very fun, would it? Neither is waxing. It’s important to hydrate from the inside out. Fragrance free & non-comedogenic lotions and oils should be used especially after exfoliating. Drinking plenty of water and avoiding alcohol the day before is also helpful!
If you’re still a bit nervous, you can always take an over-the-counter pain reliever 20-30 mins before your appointment.
